February is American Heart Month. Cardiovascular, or heart, disease is the leading cause of death in America. To educate men and women and promote heart-healthy living, several events will take place through the month of February to promote awareness of heart disease.
This month, the Million Hearts Challenge is a pledge that folks can take to stay active for 30 minutes each day, and follow a heart-healthy diet, while meeting with the doctor to discuss possible blood pressure or cholesterol issues, and to find out if an aspirin a day regime would be beneficial. Family and friends are encouraged to take part in the Million Hearts Pledge to establish good habits and heart-healthy living.
Friday, February 7th, is Red Day. Across the country people will don the color red to show support for those afflicted with heart disease, and to spread awareness to others. By wearing red on February 7th, people join together to show support for those who suffer from heart disease, or for those who have been indirectly touched by it, and promote heart-healthy living.
A fun and informative event called the Heart of Style Tour takes place between the 1st of February and March 31st. WomenHeart pairs up with the popular retailer, Burlington, for a national mobile tour. The Heart of Style tour bus will travel to select Burlington locations throughout the country to educate women about heart disease.
People are encouraged to stop by the Heart of Style tour bus for a fun and informative experience. The stylish bus has plenty of seating where trained professionals will offer free heart health screenings. Educational material will be provided by the group WomenHeart Champions, which consist of educators and survivors of heart disease. The tour bus will travel across the country, and will visit California in March.
